Kronstadt and Petrograd in 1917

From Feburary to October 1917, the sailors of Kronstadt were at the centre of the revolution which shook the world.

Raskolnikov, then 25, was one of their leaders. This is his day-by-day record, from the fall of the tsar to the Bolshevik seizure of power.

His pen brings to life the events in the streets if Petrograd and the struggle in the Soviets. He gives vivid portraits both of the leaders and of the workers and soldiers who made the revolution.

Raskolnikov was to become a fighter against Stalinism. In August 1939 he wrote his 'Open Letter to Stalin', included in this book. A month later came the news of his sudden death.
