In late capitalist society, war and violent social conflict are endemic. The corporate mass media constantly pumps out the official line, identifying the enemy, justifying imperialism's latest war and hyping up the sureal 'war on terror'.

in order to resist this veritable barrage of Orwellian propaganda, we need to have an independent framework for approaching the various issues of the modern class struggles.

The two talks presented in this pamphlet look at such vexed questions as war, pacificism and terrorism and provide a clear Marxist approach for assessing them.

For example, the wars waged by imperialism for the conquest and plunder should be opposed. But what about wars of liberation waged by the oppressed? Clearly, different criteria apply in the two cases.
