Description

Critique of the Gotha Programme, written by Marx in 1875, contains critical remarks in relation to the draft programme of a United Workers’ Party of Germany. Marx and Engels approved the idea of founding a united socialist party of Germany but denounced the ideological compromises with the followers of Ferdinand Lassalle and subjected the draft to withering criticism. In this work Marx formulated many ideas on the major issues of scientific communism, such as the socialist revolution, the dictatorship of the proletariat, a period of transition from capitalism to communism, the two phases of communist society, the production and distribution of the social product under socialism and the principal features of communism, proletarian internationalism and the party of the working class.
