There are profiles of over 60 jazzwomen, including Gertrude ‘Ma’ Rainey, Bessie Smith, Victoria Spivey, Norma Teagarden, Melba Liston, Carla Bley and Jo Anne Bracken. For most of the women interviewed, this is the first opportunity to tell their moving stories.
