Description

First published in 1894, Lenin’s work is a major polemic with the liberal populists (Narodniks) who opposed Marxism. The populists thought that the peasant village commune could be the basis of a transition to socialism. Lenin showed that capitalist penetration into the countryside was inexorably undermining the old commune and leading to a class differentiation of the peasantry.
