Description
By Jim McIlroy
This is the fourth collection of articles from Green Left, as part of a series, by veteran Australian socialist Jim McIlroy. The collection deals with the ongoing fight against capitalism and for radical social and ecological change, and spans the period 2017–19.
The articles in Writings from the Frontline, Vol. 4: 2017–19 range from coverage of key industrial and political struggles of the period against federal and state Coalition governments, including the campaign against public sector job cuts and privatisation; the battle to tax the rich and big business, and against cuts to Medicare; the campaign of solidarity with the people of Venezuela, Cuba and Latin America against US intervention; the ongoing struggle for First Nations rights, including the important contribution of Aboriginal socialist leader Sam Watson; coverage of Socialist Alliance election campaigns of the period; history of the Red North, the 1917 Great Strike, and other key radical events; and a number of film and book reviews.
The collection covers a wide variety of topics, highlighting the vital role of Green Left as the premier socialist publication in Australia, and as an organising voice for Socialist Alliance, and the building of a broad, radical eco-socialist movement in this country.
